Lakewood Drum Mic Rundown

I recently had the chance to talk with my friends at Worship Drummer about our drum microphone setup at Lakewood. Be sure to check them out on YouTube and Instagram. Great guys!

Jonathan Camey is our drummer at the church and is incredibly talented. He and I started at Lakewood about the same time and have been working together for almost 20 years.

Drums are absolutely a foundational part of a modern worship mix and I think its important to make sure they are mic’d and mixed correctly.

In the video I said we have a Beta 98 in the kick drum when in fact we have Beta 91 🤣🤣. Not sure I had enough coffee before that interview 😬

In addition to specifics about microphones they asked me about advice I’d give to engineers and drummers in smaller spaces.

First of all the relationship between the band and the engineer is extremely important. We are all on the same team and should all be moving toward the same goal on the weekends. I also discuss the importance for drummers to still use dynamics even if they are fully enclosed in a drum cage.
